Aestox is a type A botulinum toxin with a Thai label, sold in three strengths, 50, 100 and 200 Units, one vial per box.
The white box prints the Aestox name and the strength in large figures, with the text Botulinum Toxin Type A, Prescription only and For intramuscular injection, meaning a type A botulinum toxin, used on prescription only, given by injection into muscle.
DermNet explains that type A botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine, so the treated muscle contracts less, and that the effect is temporary because the nerve grows new endings.
The treating doctor decides how it is used for each person.
If anything unusual happens after a botulinum toxin injection, such as difficulty swallowing or breathing, or weakness beyond what the doctor described, contact the doctor or seek medical care at once. Read the warnings on the label of the box you receive, and ask the treating doctor about the cautions before treatment.
Before treatment, tell the doctor about allergies, medical conditions and any infection at the injection site. DermNet adds that people with motor neurone disease or myasthenia gravis, a previous allergic reaction, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid it or ask a doctor first.
According to DermNet, the common side effects relate to the injection itself: pain, bruising, swelling and redness. More serious is weakness in nearby muscles, such as a drooping eyelid. The treating doctor explains the risks before every treatment.
That depends on the person, and the doctor assesses it. Discuss indications, risks and the right strength with the doctor before deciding.
In Thai, botulinum toxin type A is commonly just called Botox, but Botox is Allergan's trade name. Aestox is a different brand. Each brand measures its Units with its own assay, so the numbers cannot be compared or converted between brands, and price per Unit should not be compared across brands without asking a doctor.
DermNet says the effect of type A botulinum toxin is not permanent: after about three months the nerve-to-muscle connection is re-established. The treating doctor assesses what to expect for you.
DermNet says the effect appears within 2 to 4 days, with the greatest weakness at around ten days. Individual response differs, and the doctor explains what to expect.
Store and use it as the label on your Aestox box says, and ask the treating doctor if you are unsure.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
