Dysport is Ipsen's type A botulinum toxin from the United Kingdom, supplied as a freeze-dried powder to be prepared before injection. It comes in two vial strengths, 300 Units and 500 Units.
Keep unopened vials in a refrigerator at 2–8 °C, never frozen, in the original packaging. The UK product information gives an unopened shelf life of 2 years.
For preparation and storage after mixing, the clinic follows the leaflet of the actual vial.
Tell the doctor about any allergy to botulinum toxin or the ingredients, nerve or muscle disease, and infection at the injection site, plus medicines, supplements, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and earlier injections.
The doctor decides whether to go ahead, postpone or run further checks. After a change of clinic or health, assess again rather than relying on an old plan.
Ask the doctor about pain, swelling, bruising and the muscle weakness that can occur, and how to reach the clinic after injection.
If swallowing or breathing becomes difficult, get medical care at once.
Botox is the common name for type A botulinum toxin products. Dysport's active substance is abobotulinumtoxinA, a substance from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum type A.
Both are type A botulinum toxins under different trade names. Each product measures its Units by its own method, so Unit numbers cannot be used as a conversion formula between brands. Compare maker, form, ingredients and product information, and let the doctor decide.
No single brand suits everyone. Compare maker, country, form, ingredients and the documents of the actual product, and let the injecting doctor decide with your health history.
The time before a change is noticed differs between people and areas. Ask the injecting doctor how follow-up works and when the review visit is, and contact the doctor with any question.
It must be injected by a licensed doctor at a clinic you can verify. Ask which product is used, whether you can see the box and batch number, and how to reach the clinic after injection.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
