What is Mounjaro peptide innovation for body balance?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is an injectable medicine from Eli Lilly, supplied as a pre-filled pen in six strengths from 2.5 to 15 mg.

In short

  • It is a specially controlled drug, injected under the skin once a week on a doctor's prescription and instruction, and the doctor sets and changes the dose.
  • The Thai FDA registry gives two indications: type 2 diabetes, and weight control in adults with obesity or overweight and a related condition. The doctor decides who should use it.
  • In Thailand, Silic Pharma holds the licence to import it, and the Thai FDA entry lists Italy as the site of the finished product.

Thai FDA registration and manufacturers

Registration 1C 19/67 (NC) was approved on 31 July 2024 and is valid to 30 July 2031. Its status is active. The entry checked in the Thai FDA drug database is MOUNJARO 5 MG.

The licensee and importer is Silic Pharma Co., Ltd., Bangkok. The finished product is made by BSP Pharmaceuticals S.p.A. in Latina, Italy, and the entry names a second manufacturer, ANDERSONBRECON INC. in Illinois, USA.

In Europe the marketing authorisation holder is Eli Lilly Nederland B.V. in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Side effects and cautions

Per the EMA label, the most frequent side effects are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain and constipation. Most are mild or moderate, and they are more frequent while the doctor is raising the dose.

The label warns about acute pancreatitis, which has been reported in people taking it. It has not been studied in people who have had pancreatitis. If pancreatitis is suspected, the medicine must be stopped and a doctor seen. Contact the prescribing doctor if anything unusual happens.

Storage

The EMA label says to keep Mounjaro in a refrigerator at 2-8 C and never to freeze it. An unopened pen has a shelf life of 3 years under that label. A multi-dose KwikPen can be kept for 30 days after first use and must be thrown away after that.

This comes from the European label; a Thai label may differ slightly. Follow the label and leaflet in your box, and ask a pharmacist if unsure.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mounjaro the same as tirzepatide?

Tirzepatide is the active substance. Mounjaro is the brand name of the Eli Lilly medicine that contains it. The first name tells you what is inside, and the second tells you which company's product it is. The Thai FDA entry is listed under MOUNJARO.

How is Mounjaro injected?

It is injected under the skin once a week with a pre-filled pen. A patient should not start, raise, lower or stop it alone; follow what the doctor sets.

What should I tell the doctor before starting Mounjaro?

Tell the doctor about medical conditions, any history of pancreatitis, current medicines and drug allergies. Anyone allergic to tirzepatide or any other ingredient must not use it, and anyone who has had an allergic reaction to it must tell the doctor first.

How can I check Mounjaro against the Thai FDA registry?

Open the Thai FDA drug database and search for registration number 1C 19/67 (NC). Compare the drug name, the licensee and the manufacturer with the text on the box. That number belongs to the 5 mg entry.

How much is Mounjaro (tirzepatide)?

The price depends on the model and the quantity.
