What is Saxenda Pen?

Saxenda is a liraglutide 6 mg/mL pre-filled pen of 3 mL for subcutaneous injection, made by Novo Nordisk A/S in Denmark. It is a prescription medicine.

In short

  • The other ingredients on the label are disodium phosphate dihydrate, propylene glycol, phenol, a pH adjuster (hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide) and water for injection.
  • Imported options from Korea and Denmark are sold per pen. The Thai-label option is sold per box, listed as 1 box of 3 pens, and is imported by Novo Nordisk Pharma (Thailand).
  • A doctor prescribes it and sets how it is used. It should not be self-selected.

How Saxenda is stored

Before first use, keep it in a refrigerator at 2-8 °C, do not freeze it, and protect it from heat and light, as the US label and the Thai carton state.

After first use the US label allows 30 days and the Thai carton says to discard the pen after 1 month. Follow the label on the pack received.

Status in the US and the EU

In the US Saxenda is dispensed on prescription only (Rx only). In the EU it was authorised on 23 March 2015, with Novo Nordisk A/S as holder.
