What is Belotero?

Belotero is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler from Merz Aesthetics, made by Anteis SA in Switzerland. It is a sterile gel in a single-use pre-filled glass syringe.

In short

  • Choose Soft, Balance or Intense, and an import or Thai (อย.ไทย) label, in the product options. The price differs by label, not by model.
  • The Belotero range comes with and without lidocaine. A licensed doctor assesses and injects it.
  • Belotero Revive (HA with glycerol) and Belotero Lips belong to the same family but are separate listings with their own pages.

Merz Aesthetics and Belotero technology

The maker says the Belotero range uses Dynamic Cross-Linking Technology. Anteis SA is a Swiss company that Merz acquired in November 2013, and Merz sells the range in more than 90 countries.

What is in a Belotero carton?

According to the Belotero Balance Lidocaine instructions, one carton holds a leaflet, one pre-filled glass syringe of ready-to-use gel, two traceability labels and two sterile needles, all for single use.

The volume and syringe count are printed on each model's carton, and the Soft, Balance and Intense cartons read 1 x 1 ml. Only the gel is sterile, not the outside of the syringe.

History to tell the doctor, and the risks of fillers

The U.S. FDA calls filler injection a medical procedure, not a cosmetic treatment, and advises against injecting it yourself. It says the main serious risk is unintended injection into a blood vessel, which can cause tissue death, vision problems or stroke. Choose a doctor experienced in dermatology or plastic surgery, and contact the treating doctor straight away if anything unusual happens after treatment.

Tell the doctor about allergies to any ingredient, to products made by bacterial fermentation, and to amide-type local anaesthetics such as lidocaine if the chosen model contains it. Also mention infection or inflamed skin at the site, a history of cold sores, pregnancy or breastfeeding, medicines and supplements, and earlier fillers.

Frequently asked questions

Which country is Belotero from?

Switzerland. Anteis SA makes it for Merz Aesthetics.

Is Belotero good?

Whether it suits a particular person is for the injecting doctor to judge from the area, skin and health history, and to explain at the consultation.

What is the difference between Belotero Soft, Balance and Intense?

They differ in the depth of line the maker designed them for, from shallow to deep. Soft is for fine, shallow lines such as those around the mouth, Balance for moderate lines, and Intense for deep lines and lip enhancement (source: Merz, belotero.com). The doctor explains which suits your area and skin.

How is Belotero different from Belotero Revive and Belotero Lips?

Belotero Revive is HA with glycerol, and Belotero Lips is designed for the lips, while this page covers the Soft, Balance and Intense models.

How much is Belotero?

The price depends on the model and the quantity.
