What is Dermalax Plus?

Dermalax Plus is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler with 0.3% lidocaine, made by Across Co., Ltd. of South Korea, in a 1.1 ml pre-filled syringe.

In short

  • One box holds 1 syringe and 2 x 30G needles, with HA at 20 mg/ml. The maker gives storage as 2–25 °C and a shelf life of 24 months.
  • Dermalax Plus is classed by its maker as a medical device for temporary improvement of facial wrinkles. Assessment and injection are done by a licensed doctor, who chooses the site, depth and amount.
  • The Dermalax Plus group has three versions, and the other two differ according to the maker: Dermalax Deep Plus has HA 24 mg/ml, 27G needles and 1 syringe (2 needles), while Dermalax Implant Plus has HA 24 mg/ml, 25G needles and 2 syringes (4 needles). All three carry 0.3% lidocaine in 1.1 ml syringes.

Hyaluronic acid and lidocaine in the syringe

A cross-linked HA filler is a gel built from hyaluronic acid, a substance the body makes naturally, and the Dermalax Plus syringe also contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic.

As the 2024 Polymers review describes it, most HA fillers are produced through microbial fermentation followed by a cross-linking step that makes the product resist enzyme breakdown.

Risks the US FDA lists, and what to tell the doctor

As the US FDA puts it, filler injection is a medical procedure for a licensed, trained provider and should not be done on yourself. Bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, itching and rash are common; lumps, infection and allergy are less so; and injection into a blood vessel, which can cause tissue death, vision problems or stroke, is very rare.

If you have inflamed or infected skin, easy bleeding, a past severe allergy, an allergy to lidocaine or other ingredients, a tendency to raised scars, or you are pregnant or breastfeeding, say so before the injection. The doctor assesses each case.

Unusual pain, altered vision, or skin at the site that goes pale, grey or blue means you should see a doctor without delay.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dermalax Plus filler dangerous?

Dermalax Plus carries the risks the US FDA lists for all fillers, from minor bruising and swelling to very rare serious events. Assessing your own risks before injection is the doctor's job.

How many cc is one syringe of Dermalax Plus?

Each syringe holds 1.1 ml (cc), the same size as across the Plus group. The Dermalax Plus box has 1 syringe with two 30G needles.

How does Dermalax Plus differ from the other Dermalax Plus versions?

Plus has HA at 20 mg/ml, while Deep Plus and Implant Plus have 24 mg/ml. Its needles are 30G, against 27G and 25G for the other two respectively, and it comes with 1 syringe. The doctor chooses the version.

How long does Dermalax Plus filler last?

Some HA fillers are broken down by the body on their own, as the US FDA describes, but how long Dermalax Plus lasts depends on the area, the injection method and the individual. Ask the injecting doctor.

Is there a clinical study on Dermalax Plus?

A study sponsored by Across and registered as NCT02179619 at ClinicalTrials.gov tested Dermalax (Deep) against Restylane in the nasolabial folds, completed in February 2014.

How much is Dermalax Plus Filler with Lidocaine?

The price depends on the model and the quantity.
