Juvederm Ultra 4 is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel filler with lidocaine from Allergan, an AbbVie company, made in France. It is a ready-to-use gel in single-use syringes.
The maker's leaflet describes Juvederm Ultra 4 as an injectable implant for filling deep skin depressions by deep dermis injection, and for lip enhancement and cheekbone augmentation. It is for intradermal injection and injection into the lip mucosa only.
The leaflet says not to inject the periorbital area (eyelids, under-eye, crow's feet) or the glabellar region. The doctor chooses the area, depth and technique for each person.
Anyone allergic to lidocaine or amide-type local anaesthetics, to hyaluronic acid or to gram-positive bacterial proteins should not receive Ultra 4, according to the leaflet. The same goes for people with porphyria, untreated epilepsy or a tendency to hypertrophic scarring, for pregnant or breastfeeding women, and for children.
Where the skin at the injection site is inflamed or infected, as with acne or herpes, the injection is avoided; the product is likewise not used together with laser treatment, deep chemical peels or dermabrasion.
The leaflet forbids injection into a blood vessel, because blockage and loss of blood supply to tissue can follow. The US FDA lists tissue death, blindness and stroke as serious complications of fillers.
For autoimmune disease, immunosuppressive therapy or multiple severe allergies, the maker has the doctor decide case by case. Tell the doctor about repeated past streptococcal disease or anticoagulant use. Ultra 4 is not for breast augmentation or reconstruction. Come to the injection with a list of your medicines, supplements, allergies and previous injections.
Ultra 4 keeps at 2-25 °C. The pack is fragile, and it must be used before the expiry date printed on the label.
Gel that has separated or turned cloudy in a syringe means that syringe must not be used, as the maker states.
That depends on your skin, the area and your health history. The maker's leaflet states the indications and contraindications of Juvederm Ultra 4, and the doctor decides which product suits you.
It is made in France, and the maker's leaflet for Ultra 4 says Made in France.
Two 1 mL syringes come in each box (2 mL in all, with 1 mL equal to 1 cc), together with four sterile 27G ½-inch needles, the leaflet and a set of traceability labels.
Besides Ultra 2, 3 and 4, Allergan lists Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, Volift, Voluma, Volbella, Volux and Volite in the Juvederm range. Ultra 4 has a leaflet of its own.
Written in Thai, the name is จูวีเดิม or จูวีเดิร์ม. Allergan owns the Juvederm trademark.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
