Juvederm Ultra XC is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid filler with lidocaine, made in France by Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company. It is a clear, colourless gel in a pre-filled single-patient syringe.
The maker's leaflet gives two indications: correcting moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds, and treating the lips and perioral area in adults over 21.
The leaflet bars use in anyone with a history of severe allergy up to anaphylaxis or of several severe allergies, anyone allergic to gram-positive bacterial protein that can be present in trace amounts, and anyone allergic to lidocaine or amide-type substances.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women and people under 18 are groups where the maker says safety is not established. People on immunosuppressive treatment need caution, as do those taking aspirin, NSAIDs or warfarin, which prolong bleeding and may cause more bruising or bleeding.
It must never be injected into a blood vessel, which can block the vessel. The maker lists redness, swelling, pain, firmness, lumps, discolouration and bruising as common reactions at the injection site.
There is no single answer. Ultra XC carries indications for facial wrinkles and folds and for the lips, and the injecting doctor decides, given your skin and health history, whether it suits you.
Yes, at 0.3% w/w. Tell the doctor before the injection if you have ever been allergic to lidocaine or amide-type substances.
Yes, it carries a lip and perioral indication for adults over 21. The doctor assesses whether it suits you.
Room temperature up to 25 °C, never frozen. The gel is clear and colourless; if a syringe holds gel that is not clear, the maker says not to use it. Use before the expiry date on the label.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
