Juvederm Voluma with Lidocaine is a cross-linked (BDDE) hyaluronic acid filler with lidocaine, made in France by Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company. It is a clear, colourless gel in pre-filled syringes, two 1 mL syringes per box.
The maker's leaflet gives one indication: augmenting the mid-face cheeks, the chin and the temples in adults over 21.
The choice of area, amount and technique belongs to a doctor trained in the anatomy of the injection site.
According to the leaflet, people with a past anaphylactic reaction or several severe allergies, an allergy to gram-positive bacterial protein that can occur in trace amounts, or an allergy to lidocaine or amide-type substances should not receive it.
The maker states that safety has not been established in pregnant or breastfeeding women or in people with very thin mid-face skin. Use with caution in people having immunosuppressive treatment, and in people taking substances that prolong bleeding (such as aspirin, NSAIDs and warfarin), who may bruise or bleed more.
It must never be injected into a blood vessel. The maker describes rare but serious events from filler injected into facial vessels, such as abnormal vision or blindness, stroke and skin tissue death. Lumps and firmness at the injection site were the most common adverse events in the studies.
That depends on your skin and health history. Voluma is indicated for the mid-face cheeks, chin and temples, and the injecting doctor decides whether it suits you.
Yes, the chin is one of its indicated areas, for adults over 21. The doctor assesses whether it suits you.
Yes, 0.3% w/w in the gel. If you have ever been allergic to lidocaine or amide-type substances, tell the doctor before the injection.
Do not freeze it or keep it above 25 °C. Use it only within the expiry date on the label, and if the gel in a syringe is not clear the maker says that syringe must not be used.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
