Restylane Defyne is a hyaluronic acid gel filler with 0.3% lidocaine hydrochloride, from the Emervel collection, made by Q-Med AB (Galderma) of Sweden and supplied in a plastic syringe.
The manufacturer states it is used to add volume to facial tissue, recommended for correcting severe wrinkles and for shaping the lips, cheeks and tear trough.
Technique and sites are the injecting doctor's decision for each person, explained at the consultation.
Per the manufacturer's document, it is unsuitable for people with a history of streptococcal protein allergy (the protein may be present in trace amounts), a history of severe allergy such as anaphylaxis, or allergy to lidocaine or amide-type local anaesthetics.
The manufacturer says to postpone use if the treatment area or nearby tissue is inflamed, infected or has a tumour, and that safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding and under age 18 has not been established.
People who bleed easily, or take medicines affecting platelets, thrombolytics or anticoagulants, may bruise or bleed more at the injection site and should tell the doctor first.
It must not be injected into a blood vessel, which can block the vessel and cause ischaemia or tissue death. Rare serious events such as blindness, stroke and skin necrosis have been reported. A change in vision, stroke-like symptoms, whitening of the skin or unusual pain means the injection must stop at once and a doctor must be seen.
Bruising, redness, itching, swelling and soreness at the site are expected, and the manufacturer says they usually clear within a few days to a week. Avoid strong sun, UV and extreme temperatures until swelling and redness settle, and ask the injecting doctor before laser or chemical peels.
The manufacturer says to store it at no more than 25 °C, not to freeze it, and to keep it out of sunlight.
It is single-use and must not be re-sterilised. The syringe, needles and any remainder are discarded after treatment.
It depends on the person and the area treated. The injecting doctor explains this at the consultation.
No. The manufacturer says it is to be used by legally authorised personnel trained in injection technique.
It is hyaluronic acid whose molecules have been linked together (cross-linked), here of non-animal origin. It is the main ingredient of the gel in Restylane Defyne and is biodegradable.
Lidocaine hydrochloride at 0.3% is mixed in to reduce the pain of the injection.
The price depends on the model and the quantity.
