What is Restylane Kysse?

Restylane Kysse is a hyaluronic acid gel filler for the lips with 0.3% lidocaine hydrochloride, made by Q-Med AB (Galderma) of Sweden and supplied in a plastic syringe.

In short

  • Per the manufacturer's document, the gel contains cross-linked, non-animal hyaluronic acid at 20 mg/mL, lidocaine hydrochloride at 3 mg/mL (0.3%) and phosphate buffered saline.
  • Each pack holds a plastic syringe of 1 mL gel with two ultra-thin-wall 30G x 1/2 in needles. The box reads Restylane KYSSE Injectable Gel with Lidocaine, and a label is supplied for the client's record.
  • It is used only by licensed medical providers. Both a Thai-label pack and an imported pack are available.

Indication in the manufacturer's document

The manufacturer gives a single indication: to augment or add volume to the lips.

Technique and injection sites are the injecting doctor's decision for each person.

Risks and who should not receive it

It should not be used in people with a history of streptococcal protein allergy, a history of severe allergy such as anaphylaxis, or allergy to lidocaine or amide-type local anaesthetics. Use should be postponed if the area or tissue nearby is inflamed, infected or has a tumour, and the manufacturer says safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding and under age 18 has not been established.

The key warning is that it must not be injected into a blood vessel, which can cause a blockage, ischaemia or tissue death. Rare serious events such as blindness, stroke and skin necrosis have been reported. A change in vision, whitening of the skin or unusual pain during or soon after injection means the injection must stop at once and a doctor must be seen.

People who bleed easily, or take medicines affecting platelets or blood clotting, may bruise more. Bruising, redness, itching, swelling and soreness at the site can follow, and the manufacturer says they usually clear within a few days to a week. Avoid strong sun, UV and extreme temperatures until swelling and redness settle.

Storage

Store at no more than 25 °C, do not freeze, and keep out of sunlight, as the manufacturer states.

Single-use only and not to be re-sterilised; the syringe, needles and any remainder are discarded after treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How long does lip filler last?

It varies by person. The injecting doctor explains this at the consultation.

Can I buy Restylane Kysse and inject it myself?

No. The manufacturer says it is to be used by legally authorised personnel trained in injection technique.

What is cross-linked hyaluronic acid?

It is hyaluronic acid whose molecules have been linked together (cross-linked) and which is not of animal origin. The manufacturer names it as the main ingredient of the gel in Restylane Kysse.

Why is lidocaine in a filler?

Lidocaine hydrochloride at 0.3% is mixed into the gel to reduce the pain of the injection.

How much is Restylane Kysse?

The price depends on the model and the quantity.
