What is Restylane Volyme?
Restylane Volyme is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) filler gel of non-animal origin with 0.3% lidocaine hydrochloride, made by Q-Med AB (Galderma) in Sweden. It comes in a 1 mL plastic syringe with two 27G needles.
In short
- Each 1 mL of gel holds 20 mg/mL hyaluronic acid, 3 mg/mL lidocaine hydrochloride and phosphate buffered saline. The needles are ultra-thin wall, 27G x 1/2 inch. The gel is biodegradable, the product is single-use, and labels for the patient's record are included.
- The box reads Restylane VOLYME, The Emervel collection (Injectable Gel with lidocaine). Thai-label and imported packs are available.
- The maker says it is to be injected by people licensed under local law and trained in injection technique.
What the maker says it is for: facial volume
The maker says Volyme is used to add volume to facial tissue. Its indication is correcting facial volume, for example in the cheeks and the chin.

Cautions in the maker's documents
The maker puts particular weight on accidental injection into a blood vessel, which can block the vessel and cut off or kill tissue. Rare but serious events have been reported, such as blindness or abnormal vision, stroke or brain bleeding, and skin necrosis. Changes in vision, stroke-like symptoms, blanching of the skin or unusual pain mean injection must stop at once and a doctor be seen.
The Instructions for Use rule out people with a history of streptococcal protein allergy (the gel may contain traces of it), people who have had severe anaphylaxis, and people allergic to lidocaine or amide-type local anaesthetics.
The maker says to postpone use if the injection area or nearby skin is inflamed, infected or has a tumour. People taking medicines that affect platelets or blood clotting may bruise or bleed more than usual. Safety in pregnancy, breastfeeding and under 18 years has not been established.
After a Volyme injection
Reactions that may appear are bruising, redness, itching, swelling, and pain or tenderness at the injection site. The maker says they usually clear within a few days to a week.
While swelling and redness remain, the maker advises avoiding intense sun, UV and extreme temperatures, and asking the injecting doctor before laser, chemical peels or other skin-stimulating procedures.
